Mau Ultimatum

Rift Valley Mps Wednesday threatened to return evicted squatters to the Mau forest if the government did not resettle them on alternative land in two weeks time.

The legislators who condemned the ongoing evictions further warned of a humanitarian crisis and appealed for relief assistance for the affected families camping in make shift structures in various camps.

The relocation exercise has now taken a political dimension with the MPs accusing the government of neglecting the squatters who have no food or shelter.

Addressing a press conference, the MP's denied claims that some of their colleagues from the region own large tracks of land in the Mau forest.

But Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi warned against politicizing the issue which he said was agreed on by the Cabinet.

Lands Minister has reassured those with genuine title deeds of compensation in the third phase of the exercise .
