Share/Save/Bookmark "I never engage in fraud”, a former senior State counsel whose name appears twice in Ndungu land report told a judicial oversight body yesterday. Valeria Onyango who is eying the post of a high court judge was queried by the judicial service commission to explain why her name appears twice in the report. Onyango told the commission that she was never given an opportunity by the Ndungu commission to defend her self. She added that the plots she is alleged to have fraudulently acquired were bought from her own savings. “I never engage in any fraud”, said Onyango.
At the age of 64 she said one of the things she will bring to judiciary if she was hired, is a wealth of experience she gathered at the state law office and maturity in handling disputes that she gathered over the years. She alleyed fears that she will not fit into the new dispensation, saying she is an open-mnded person, a fact she said blends well with new challenges. If she were to get the post, Onyango can only be hired on contract of six years. She cannot be hired on permanent basis as she is already on pension having retired from the State law office.
Another candidate who faced the panel was confronted by complaint filed against him by a member of public who holds the opinion that the judicial officer is not suitable to be a judge. The member of public whose name was not given feels the magistrate Anthony Kimani Ndungu has no respect for law. The complaint made against the magistrate arose out of a case he presided over in which he was asked to dismiss because he lacks jurisdiction. However according to the complainant, the magistrate held that he had jurisdiction and gave order on the matter.
