Kakamega county aspirants use holidays to appeal for votes

POLITICIANS interested in Kakamega county seats used Christmas messages to plead for support from voters. They wished the residents happy Christmas and on the messages added a plea for political support come next elections for the respective seats they aspire to capture. “We thank the Almighty God for the year 2011. Now Xmas is here with us and 2012 is around the corner. Allow me to fight for the poor with all the humility I can master.My quest is for the position of senator of Kakamega county in 2012 general elections,” read a message from Ikolomani MP Boni Khalwale.
Khalwale and Shanyisa Khasiani from Shinyalu constituency have declared interest in the Kakamega county senate seat.A spot check showed that politicians seeking to become governor for the Kakamega county also sent out similar messages. Planning minister Wycliffe Oparanya, Housing minister Soita Shitanda and a businessman Simbauni Ndombi will be seeking county governor’s seat. During Christmas vacations, politicians interested in presidency, county and parliamentary positions attended football tournaments, church services and cultural events and even funerals to seek support from the locals in counties in Western province.
