NBA stars gather for first game in Africa

AFP

Johannesburg (AFP) - Basketball stars including Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers and Luol Deng of Miami Heat warmed up Friday for the NBA's first game in Africa, as the sport looks to expand into the continent.
The sold-out exhibition game at the Ellis Park arena in Johannesburg on Saturday will pit a team with African links captained by Deng against a "world team" captained by Paul.
"I think what makes it so special is that it's the first game over here," Paul told AFP.
"We want to make sure we give the fans a great game."
Five-time NBA Champion Gregg Popovich will coach Team Africa, which includes Deng, who was born in South Sudan, Luc Mbah a Moute from Cameroon, Senegalese Gorgui Dieng and Frenchman Boris Diaw, whose father is from Senegal.
"The first thing they need is infrastructure. Sports infrastructure needs to be put in place, basketball courts that are modern, and they also need balls and all that," said Diaw during training.
He said he was confident that development was starting to take place in Africa, despite challenges.
"I see it in Senegal and lots of things are done in other countries too," he said.
Team World will feature Bradley Beal of Washington Wizards, Pau Gasol of Chicago Bulls and Evan Turner of Boston Celtics, with Brooklyn Nets coach Lionel Hollins in charge.
The teams have been involved in charity work ahead of the clash, including fitness sessions with children and a basketball clinic in a township outside Johannesburg.
The game of basketball is steadily gaining popularity in Africa, with more than 35 players from the continent featured on NBA rosters since Hakeem Olajuwon was drafted in 1984.
The NBA opened an office in Johannesburg in 2010.

Russell Wilson's new $87 million Seahawks contract is a monster

Business Insider

Scott Davis and Tony Manfred
russell wilson seattle seahawks(Steve Dykes/Getty Images) After drawn-out negotiations all off-season, Russell Wilson has agreed to a four-year, $87.6 million contract extension with the Seattle Seahawks, SI's Peter King reports.

The deal comes with a $31 million signing bonus (tied for the most in the NFL this season), $60 million guaranteed (the second most in the NFL), and a $21.9 million average salary that ranks second in the NFL behind Aaron Rodgers. It's a monster contract, and it comes only hours before a self-imposed deadline would have cut off negotiations until next summer.
What makes Wilson's contract unique is the insane amount of guaranteed money. Wilson's deal is 68.4% guaranteed, which is far more than many of his peers, according to Over the Cap. Rodgers' deal, for instance, is only 49% guaranteed, and Cam Newton's monster new contract is only 39.5% guaranteed.
Wilson essentially passed up the rumored massive $120 million deal for something smaller with a high amount of guaranteed money.
Heading into the offseason, Wilson was believed to be aiming for a record-setting contract that seemed like a matter of "when," not "if."
However, things suddenly became quiet, and it was later reported that Wilson and the Seahawks were "tens of millions" of dollars apart. When Cam Newton signed a $103 million contract with $60 million guaranteed (with only half of that guaranteed for injury, importantly), it seemed that whenever Wilson got an offer, it would trump Newton's.
Instead, Wilson reportedly turned down a deal worth $21 million per year, but with far fewer guarantees and money upfront, making the deal less lucrative than those of some of his peers.
In the end, he got a bigger deal than Newton based on average salary, and more guaranteed money (depending on how much is guaranteed for injury).
Wilson confirmed the news on Twitter:
The deal is good for both sides. Wilson gets paid for his borderline unprecedented early-career success, and the Seahawks locked him up instead of letting him dangle in free agency, when they'd have to use the franchise tag on him.
Going forward, it will be interesting to seehow the Seahawks will pay their other breakout stars asking for more money, given that they now have several players signed to big salaries.

HEART ATTACKS AND WATER!

Harold Desantis Lewis

How many people do you know who say they don't want to drink anything before going to bed because they'll have to get up during the night?

Heart Attack and Water - I never knew all of this! I am learning something NEW everyday.

Something else I didn't know...

A doctor was asked why do people need to urinate so much at night time.

Answer from a Cardiac Doctor - Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement!

Correct time to drink water...

Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body.

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

Note this, water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

Mayo Clinic Aspirin Dr. Virend Somers, is a Cardiologist from the Mayo Clinic, who is lead author of the report in the July 29, 2008 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Most heart attacks occur in the day, generally between 6 A.M. and noon. Having one during the night, when the heart should be most at rest, means that something unusual happened. Somers and his colleagues have been working for a decade to show that sleep apnea is to blame.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.
The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

2. FYI, Aspirin lasts a really long time in your medicine chest, for years, (when it gets old, it smells like vinegar).

Please read on...

Something that we can do to help ourselves - nice to know. Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve instantly on the tongue.

They work much faster than the tablets.

Why keep Aspirin by your bedside? It's about Heart Attacks.

There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.
The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.- Say "heart attack!" - Say that you have taken 2 Aspirins.
Take a seat on a chair or sofa near the front door, and wait for their arrival and ...DO NOT LIE DOWN!

A Cardiologist has stated that if each person after receiving this e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved!

I have already shared this information. What about you?

Do forward this message. It may save lives!

The Range Rover that caused a fatal accident on Sunday had its number plate changed by the National Transport and Safety Authority.
The vehicle's previous owner, identified as Alex Kamweru, wrote to the NTSA on Thursday renouncing its ownership following a story published in the media linking him to the Range Rover.
Kamweru said he sold the vehicle to Harrison Nyota Ngunyi on November 22, 2013, who later sold it to Francis Ng'ang'a Mundia of Valley Road Motors.
According to documents seen by the Star, the Range Rover initially registered as KBS 282A, was involved in another fatal accident on August 13, 2013, before Kamweru sold it.
He said he wrote a letter to the Registrar of Motor Vehicles to dispose the vehicle registration number KBS 282A as salvage, which was never done.
When contacted, director general of NTSA Francis Meja said they have received the files and would give comment on Friday afternoon.
The vehicle, which is alleged to belong to pastor Ng'ang'a killed Mercy Njeri on Sunday evening. It had KCD 060Q number plates during the accident. The pastor has denied he owns the vehicle.
On Thursday, a journalist who wrote a story claiming the controversial pastor was driving the Range Rover was allegedly kidnaped and beaten.
The journalist shared the story on his Facebook wall from his hospital bed where he is admitted after a cardiac arrest caused by poisoning.
In a conversation seen by the Star between the journalist and his boss, the editor reprimands him for "increasingly becoming cheeky by day and getting away with it."
The boss asks why the journalist shared "something that even the news desk could not touch" on his page.
The journalist said he knew pastor Nganga was driving the car at the time of the accident and the driver who was presented to court was "cosmetic."
Witnesses said the Range Rover Sport was being driven by the pastor, but police denied the reports saying it was driven by Simon Kuria.
Kuria was taken to court on Wednesday and released on Sh100,000 bond.
On Thursday, the IG dispatched a team of investigators led by Internal Affairs director Leo Nyongesa to Tigoni police station to establish the facts about the accident.
Boinett said traffic police officers based in Tigoni will face disciplinary action if found to have given misleading reports about the accident.

Governor Alfred Mutua’s estranged first wife has been locked out of the County First Ladies Association.
The association has instead recognised the governor’s youthful second wife Lillian Nganga as the First Lady of Machakos county.
Ms Nganga was on Friday pictured alongside 46 other county first ladies during the launch of the association’s five year strategic plan.
The association has been at crossroads over its legitimate members. Wives of polygamous governors have often showed up for its meetings to represent their respective counties.
The first wives have always insisted on their legitimacy as first ladies of their respective counties.

Gor wins 3-1to storm to the finals

Gor Mahia storm into CECAFA Kagame Cup finals

Gor Mahia weathered an early Al Khartoum strom to march into the 2015 CECAFA Kagame Cup finals, for the first time since their 1985 cup victory in Omdurman, rallying back to emerge 3-1 winners at the National Stadium - Dar-es-Salaam on Friday aftrnoon.
Two quickfire goal from Michael Olunga and Innocent Wafula ensured Gor Mahia stepped back into the game and go into the break leading 2-1 the opening semi-final contest against Al Khartoum.
Gor Mahia went down to a 1st minute goal by Amin Elmani after the striker pounced on a deflection off Nizigiyimana to beat Bonface Oluoch with a calm execution to the top right corner, and the opponets went ahead to command the opening sessions of the first half.
But Gor Mahia gradually came into the match and were unstoppable in their onslaught. Innocent Wafula's shot in the 13th minute found the side netting after a heavily marked Olunga had turned to set up the winger. Three minutes later, Meddie Kagere's header infront of an empty net hit the post after Walusimbi had headed the ball back from a long Nizigiyimana cross to the far post.
Then Abouba Sibomana was fouled on the left by Samawal Meghrani, the Al Khartoum defender picking a caution for his dirty work and Gor Mahia winning a free kick. The delivery from the set piece was headed away only to strike a hand in the Al Khartoum box and a penalty was awarded in favour of Gor Mahia.
Olunga stepped up and pulled the tie back on level with a powerful strike from the spot in the 24th minute. He was at the heart of the attack barely a minute later after winning back possession from the restart and with three defenders closing him down on the deep right, he picked the oncoming Wafula who struck a beauty to the near past the dive of Mohammed Abdalla into the back of the net for Gor Mahia's second goal of the match.
Al Khartoum threatedn in the 36th minute but Ousmaila Baba coulld not control the ball after Harun Shakava had shot up but failed to head a long ball played in from the midfielder. The opposition kept fighting, they superbly kept possession of the ball and made the Gor Mahia defense and midfield work extra hard to keep their lead going into the break.
The opening minutes of the second half just like it was in the first was all about Al Khartoum's command. But it was Gor Mahia who made their efforts count on the opposite goal side in the 55th minute. Godfrey Walusimbi had worked hard to keep possession deep down the left wing to feed Abouba Sibomana who delivered a high and long cross into the area. Olunga was lurking in the area and instinctively waiting on a defensive blunder and goalkeeper Mohammed Abdalla failed to lick the ball.
Olunga picked it up to shoot towards the empty net but a defender had raced back to block his effort only as far as the goal racing Meddie Kagere whopounced on the second chance to double Gor Mahia's lead. The rest of the second half would be a narrative of missed chances as both sides missed great chances to add more goals to the scoresheet.
Al Khartoum won committed numbers forward and pressed high and won a series of free kicks, with Khalid Aucho being the main culprit in the give aways always firing high and over. On Gor Mahia's case, Walusimbi fired a 72nd minute effort wide and Olunga had a shot saved by Abdalla after Kagere set him through five minutes later.
Bonface Oluoch was called into action diving low to save a connecting header after a delivery had come from a set piece down the right channel in the 86th minute.
The victory sees Coach Nutall's charges march into the 2015 CECAFA Kagame cup finals unbeaten as they seek to bring the regional inter club tittle back home for the first time since 1985.

Why John Boehner Doesn't Like Golfing With President Obama

ABC News
BENJAMIN SIEGEL
House Speaker John Boehner loves golf -- just not when it's with the President of the United States.
"The president has suggested, 'Hey, do you think it would be too much trouble to play golf again?' I have to look at him and say, 'Yes,'" Boehner, R-Ohio, said in an interview with the Golf Channel, scheduled to air Monday evening.
Boehner, who held a "golf summit" with Obama in 2011 during budget negotiations, said media scrutiny makes it difficult to enjoy 18 holes with the president.
"Everybody gets bent out of shape, worried about what we’re up to, when all we’re about to do is play golf," he added.
The president has said that Boehner and Vice President Joe Biden are among his favorite golf partners.
Obama usually golfs with a small circle of friends and administration officials at Andrews Air Force Base, but spent a recent Sunday with three House Democrats -- Reps.John Yarmuth of Kentucky, Ed Perlmutter of Colorado and Joe Courtney of Connecticut.
While observers wondered whether Obama lobbied the Democrats on the recently-completed Iran deal, Perlmutter said the outing was the fulfillment of a request he made to golf with Obama in 2013, and that the group talked "very little shop."
"It was a lot of fun," he recalled. "We had a blast."
Boehner said he'd never give up golf for the Oval Office.
"You've got to either have a very special calling or be an egomaniac to want to do this," he said. "On top of that, I smoke cigarettes, I drink red wine, I play golf, I cut my own grass and I wash and iron my own shirts. I'm not giving that up to be President of the United States."

Statement by Royal Media Services Limited on the Auditor General’s report

By Citizen, Citizen Digital

Statement by Royal Media Services Limited on the Auditor General's report
The attention of Royal Media Services Limited has been drawn to the report of the Auditor General dated 25th May 2015 with specific reference to the financial expenses of Siaya County Executive from 1st July 2013 to 30th June 2014.
The report alleges that on February 18, last year, Royal Media Services received from the Siaya County Government Ksh 2,320,000 being payment  for supply of furniture.
Royal media Services wishes to clarify that whereas it is true the quoted amounts were paid to the company, the payment was not for supply of furniture as claimed by the Auditors report.

The correct position is that the payment was for media services for an event to unveil tractors by the Siaya County Governor.
Royal Media Services Limited is not and has never been engaged in the business of selling furniture. The onus is on the Auditor General to correct the false and misleading information in his report.
